Avaza Prepares for Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries

Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, chaired a meeting of the State Organizing Committee today in Avaza. The meeting focused on preparations for the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), scheduled to take place in the "Avaza" National Tourist Zone from August 4-8, 2025.
The discussions addressed the high-level organization of the forum and related events, evaluating progress and outlining future tasks. Government members and heads of ministries and departments attended.
Hero-Arkadag highlighted that the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution to hold the conference in Turkmenistan on April 11, with 57 co-sponsors. He also noted the presidential decree of July 4, 2025, ensuring the high-level conduct of the conference and associated activities, and the recently signed agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN on the conference's organization.
The upcoming five-day conference, co-organized with the UN, will feature numerous political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian events. It anticipates the participation of 32 heads of state and government, UN Secretary-General and deputies, and leaders from international and regional organizations, financial institutions, and the private sector.
Seven high-level forums: a ministerial meeting on South-South cooperation, a parliamentary forum, private sector forum, civil society forum, youth forum, meeting of women leaders, and a connectivity event.
Side events by participating countries, international organizations, and Turkmenistan, covering topics like land transport, the International Year of Peace and Trust, youth policy, sustainable energy, and the circular economy.

Hero-Arkadag outlined key tasks, including strict adherence to the presidential decree, timely completion of construction and landscaping in Turkmenbashy city, its international airport, and the Avaza tourist zone, given the imminent arrival of international guests, including UN Secretariat representatives. Other priorities include finalizing event programs with the UN, defining the Turkmen delegation, developing concepts for Turkmen-organized side events, and preparing exhibitions.
He also stressed the importance of traditional Turkmen hospitality for guest reception at the international airport, city decorations, road infrastructure maintenance, and ensuring high-level hotel services with proper medical and commercial facilities. Emphasis was placed on efficient transport logistics, including vehicle inspections, ambulance services, and a well-planned bus schedule. Hero-Arkadag underscored meticulous control over food supply for delegations and top-tier medical services throughout the events.
Public order and security during the conference were highlighted as critical, with military and law enforcement agencies responsible for compliance.
Following reports from Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister R. Meredov, who confirmed the signing of the organizational agreement with the UN and ongoing preparations, and Deputy Prime Minister B. Amanov, who detailed the event program's compliance with international standards, Hero-Arkadag reiterated the need for coordinated inter-agency efforts.
Deputy Prime Minister B. Annamammedov provided an update on construction and renovation work in Avaza, emphasizing road improvements and quality control. Deputy Prime Minister B. Seiyidova reported on the cultural program. Hero-Arkadag urged comprehensive and improved media coverage of the forum, emphasizing the organizational quality of cultural-humanitarian events, including a friendship concert and national cuisine festival.
Concluding the meeting, Hero-Arkadag extended wishes for health and success to all participants.
After the meeting, Hero-Arkadag inspected the uniforms for volunteers and service staff involved in the international events, emphasizing their modern design, suitability for local climate, and distinct visuals. He provided feedback for further improvements. He also reviewed the proposed designs for passenger buses for the conference, stressing that they should reflect the spirit and historical significance of the international forum.
